Even skin tone requires hard work: Are you up for it?

Even skin tone requires hard work: Are you up for it?

November 23, 2020
Primer-Foundation-Concealer, if you have uneven skin you will be familiar with this routine of hiding the uneven patches. But what if we told you that you can even out the skin tone without faking it?

Great genes are a gift when it comes to the perfect skin tone. The rest of us usually cover the unevenness with make-up. However instead of putting that much effort into learning tricks for makeup and applying it daily, how about discovering some natural hacks to transform your skin to an even skin tone.

As harmless as it may be, uneven skin tone isn’t very pleasant to look at. Blotchy appearance is a result of certain dark parts of your skin giving it an inconsistent color. These dark parts in your skin are caused by too much melanin production in certain areas. There are a number of factors for this

Reasons for uneven skin tone

Being exposed to sun: We all love the sun be it summers or winters. But sometimes the affair gets problematic as your skin produces melanin in excess which absorbs UV rays that damage the skin cells. This makes the exposed areas darker than the rest of the skin. It also leads to hyper-pigmentation.

Changes in hormone : Pregnancy or usage of oral contraceptives can cause an imbalance in hormones that leads to excessive melanin production leading to melasma. Melasma can even happen if your skin reacts to cosmetics or medicines.

Aging: Aging causes appearance of dark spots on the skin especially face and areas around it.

The path to even skin tone begins with the hard work when it comes to skin care. Let’s discuss some natural home remedies for an even skin tone.

1.
Gram flour, goat milk and baking soda

You have to mix 1 tablespoon each of gram flour and baking soda with 2 tablespoon of goat milk. Apply it evenly on your face and let it dry followed by washing it with lukewarm water. It is said that goat milk’s pH is similar to our skin. Lactic acid is found in goat’s milk and it works as a milk exfoliator. Gram flour reduces tanning and also works as an exfoliator. It also lightens the skin tone.

2.     Sugar, lemon and coconut oil scrub

Mix 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of sugar and ½ teaspoon of lemon juice together. Mix all the ingredients well in a bowl. Make a mask out of it and apply on your face evenly without letting it touch your eyes. Wash it with cold water and dry your face.

Lemon juice works just like astringent in diminishing dark spots and blemishes, giving you an even skin tone. Sugar works as an exfoliating agent and coconut oil moisturizes the skin.

Medical treatments for healing uneven skin tone

Laser : Skin discolorations and blemishes, hyper-pigmentation and dark spots are treated with a highly concentrated laser, leading to an even skin tone. Laser treatment cannot be
done on every type of skin and you have to consult your doctor to know whether your skin is suitable for it or not.

Hydroquinone: Hyper-pigmentation can be cured by hydroquinone which is a bleaching medicine especially for skin. Only 2% hydroquinone is allowed to be sold as over the counter medicine. If you want a higher percentage, you will need to discuss with a skin specialist. Also, this medicine is not suitable for all skin types so be sure it suits your body before you take it. It’s better to consult a dermatologist.

Chemical peeling: The topmost layer of skin is removed in chemical peeling, which is a cosmetic procedure. It’s used to treat discolored skin, scars and wrinkles. If not done right, it can cause redness and scarring. Just like most methods, you need to know whether you are a right fit for not based on your skin examination.

Microdermabrasion: This is another way to treat unwanted dark patches and pigmentation by removing the topmost layer of the skin. The procedure needs to be done by a well trained aesthetician and you need to consult your doctor before it.

Keeping skin hydrated: Drinking water regularly makes sure your skin is hydrated and prevents it from looking dull and lifeless. You can also hydrate yourself with herbal drinks like tea, but they cannot replace water.

Avoiding too much sun: Hyperpigmentation, tanning and uneven skin tone are caused by spending too much time in the sun. Apply a good sunscreen with a high sun protection factor before you step out of the house.

Nutraceuticals: Our diets these days are not rich in the nutrients our body requires to maintain good skin. As a result we need an extra boost in the form of supplements that target our problems. Dayly Glow and Dayly Cleanse are some of the products which not only prevent your skin from further damage, but help reverse the effects of damage that your skin has already gone through.

Consuming antioxidant rich foods: What’s common between whole grains, dairy, fruits, vegetables and poultry? They provide essential nutrients to the cells in your body so that they stay healthy giving you a clear and even skin tone.

Apart from the above lifestyle changes, it’s important to have a regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine that suits your skin. You must experiment a bit and see what works well for your skin and stick to that routine
